Winifred E. Petry

Winifred E. Leese Petry, 91, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Homewood at Plum Creek.

Born on Sunday, January 15, 1928 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Ernest M. and Treva L. Trone Leese. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Charles R. “Bob” Petry, who died in 2005; a son, David J. Petry; and a sister, Jean Bollinger. A 1945 graduate of Eichelberger High School, she was a longtime employee of the former Hanover House. Winifred was a member of St. Vincent dePaul Church and the American Legion Auxiliary Post # 14. She also volunteered at Hanover Hospital and St. Vincent’s Thrift Shop, and enjoyed gardening, reading, playing cards and bird watching.

Survivors include two sons, Stephen Petry of Hanover and Philip Petry and his wife, Cathy, of Middletown; a daughter, Theresa Petry of Hanover; a step-granddaughter, Kristy Warhola; a step-great-granddaughter, Kayla Warhola; three sisters, Doris Staub of Littlestown, Phyllis Moul of Mechanicsburg and Shirley Weaver of Abbottstown; a brother, Ronald Leese and his wife, Sally, of Hanover; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Saturday, February 2, 2019 at St. Vincent dePaul Church by The Rev. Michael P. Reid, II. Burial will follow in St. Vincent’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held at the church one hour prior to the service.
