William W. Wolfersberger

William W. Wolfersberger, 86, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Homewood at Plum Creek.



Born on Friday, July 29, 1927 in Somerset, PA, he was the son of the late Harry S. and Delta Marie Tedrow Wolfersberger. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1944, was a graduate of Somerset High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society, and was also a 1949 graduate of Pennsylvania State University where he marched with the University Blue Band. While living in Winchester, VA, he was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Winchester, VA.



Mr. Wolfersberger was a US Army veteran and a retired executive with the Boy Scouts of America where he served numerous districts in Pennsylvania and Virginia for 42 years, retiring in 1992. He remained active in scouting after his retirement and volunteered as a Chairman of the Council Endowment Committee, Curator of the Council Museum, and was an active member of the Council Museum History Committee. He received the “Statuette Award”, the “Silver Beaver”, and in 2010 the “Distinguished Eagle” Award and was a member of the Order of the Arrow and Wood Badge.



A member of the Board of Directors of C-Cap and the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, he was the Chairman of Crime Solvers in Winchester from 1993 to 1995 and was a recipient of the James E. West Fellowship Award. Active in Rotary International since 1964, he had served as Vice President of the Warren, PA Rotary Club.



Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Lois E. Wolfersberger of Hanover, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Hay; and a niece, Amy Reynolds Hay.



The funeral will be held at 11 am Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church in Winchester with The Rev. George L. Sims officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A graveside service will be held at 4 pm Thursday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Berlin, PA with The Rev. Dr. John W. Harmon officiating.



In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church, 26 W. Boscawen Street, Winchester, VA 22601 or to the Shenandoah Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, 107 Youth Development Court, Winchester, VA 22602.
