William J. Strausbaugh, 89, of Hanover, beloved husband of Joyce Harner Strausbaugh, entered into God’s eternal care on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at The Village at Utz Terrace surrounded by his loving family.
Born on Saturday, May 29, 1926 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Herbert B. and Rebecca Emma Stauffer Strausbaugh and grandson of the late Rev. Jacob and Anna Forry Stauffer. He was a 1944 graduate of Eichelberger High School and was a US Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Strausbaugh was the former owner and operator of Harner’s Garage and was later the service manager for Kuhn Motors until his retirement in 1991. Following his retirement, he was a courier for the former Bank of Hanover. He was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church where he served on various committees and was also a member of the Harold H. Bair American Legion Post #14 and the Hanover Republican Club, and a former member of the Hanover Elks BPOE #763. In his spare time, he was a former volunteer with the American Cancer Society and enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. A loving husband, devoted father and proud grandfather and great-grandfather, he was a man of great faith and integrity that will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Surviving, in addition to his wife with whom he recently celebrated 66 years of marriage, are two daughters, Jane E. Dull and her husband, Jeffrey, of Hanover, and Barbara Mentzer and her husband, Dennis, of Landisville; four grandchildren, Brant L. Berwager and his wife, Teresa, of Hanover, Brooks L. Berwager of Spring Grove, Bryan L. Berwager and Amy-Renee S. Dull Collins and her husband, Anthony, all of Hanover; and a great-grandson, Brandon Berwager.
The funeral will be held at 11 am Thursday, October 8, 2015 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church with The Rev. Dr. Daniel M. Yeiser officiating. Burial will follow in the York Road Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at viewings to be held from 6 to 8pm Wednesday and 10 to 11 am Thursday. Both viewings will be at the church.
