Services:
A service to celebrate the life of William will be held at 12 noon, Monday, April 27, 2009 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 127 York Street, with The Rev. Timothy J. Kielley and The Rev. Christina H. Minnich officiating. A reception luncheon will be held at the church immediately following the service. Burial will be private in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Visitation:
A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be Sunday from 6 to 8 pm at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway in Hanover, followed by Masonic Rites being rendered by Hebron Lodge #465 F&AM at 8 pm. There will also be a time to view and pay respects one hour prior to the service at the church.



William A. Sanders, 89, died Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Hanover Hospital with his family by his side. He was the husband of Kathryn E. Miller Sanders, with whom he celebrated 62 years of marriage on December 7, 2008. Born on March 5, 1920 in New Oxford, he was a son of the late J. Felix and M. Beulah Wolf Sanders. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Bryan Swartz and a son-in-law Larry Swartz.A 1937 graduate of New Oxford High School and a 1941 graduate of Temple University, he retired from Doubleday & Co, Inc., after 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, York St., where he served on church council, worship and music committee and several years as Sunday School Superintendent. He was a 60 year member of the following Masonic Organizations: Past Master of Hebron Lodge #465, New Oxford; Zembo Shrine of Harrisburg, Harrisburg Scottish Rite Consistory; Tall Cedars of Lebanon #30 of York; York County Shrine Club. He was a member of the National AARP and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Hanover Lodge #763.Bill had a love for music and golf. He played the trumpet for several combos and taught trumpet at Menchey Music Studios for 29 years. He played in the Lyric Band and in 2007, received the “Life Membership Award.” He served as Treasurer for the Lyric Band for many years.In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Bonita K. Slutzky and husband Jon of Blue Bell and Karen L. Swartz of Hanover; five grandchildren, Lauren Walb and husband Will, Mallorie and Kendra Swartz, all of Hanover, Chadd Slutzky and wife Danielle of Chicago, IL and Brooke Slutzky of Horsham; and a brother, Harold Sanders of Mechanicsburg.
