William E. Ketter

Dr. William E. Ketter, DVM, 77, of Hanover, husband of Nadine Flannery Ketter, died Saturday, December 24, 2011 at Homewood at Plum Creek following a period of declining health.



Born on May 4, 1934 in Beloit, KS, he was a son of the late William F. and Ida Gasper Ketter. A 1952 graduate of Osborne High School in KS, he continued his education at Kansas State University, earning a degree in Veterinary Medicine. Following college, he enlisted in the United States Army and earned the rank of Captain before his discharge in 1964. He was employed as a veterinarian by the United States Department of Agriculture for 42 years before his retirement.



He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Hanover. Before locating to Hanover, he was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Olney, MD for 33 years. He became a Charter Member of Father Peter Paul Maher Council in Olney upon its Institution in 1976. He was Grand Knight of Fr. Maher Council in both 1977-78 and 1978-79. He served as Financial Secretary of the Council for more than 20 years.



In addition to his wife of 49 years, he is survived by a son, Douglas (Ann) Ketter of Olney, MD; three daughters, Stephanie Eastman (Steve) of Pasadena, MD, Paula Ketter of Springfield, VA and Kathleen Scanlon (Matt) of Easton, PA; four grandchildren, Sarah and Kelsey Eastman and Sean and Maggie Scanlon; two sisters, Helen Yost of Phoenix, AZ and Donna Russ of Wichita, KS and a brother, Larry Ketter of Osborne, KS.



The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at St. Peters Catholic Church, 2900 Sandy Spring Road, Olney MD, with Father Joseph Rogers serving as celebrant. The family will receive friends at a viewing one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held privately in Parklawn Memorial Park in Rockville, MD.
