William A. Crawford

William A. Crawford, 89, loving husband of Frances Brown Crawford of Hanover, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Homewood at Plum Creek.

Born on Sunday, March 2, 1924 in East Berlin, he was a son of the late John E. and Mary Seabright Crawford. He was also preceded in death by his twin sisters, Jean Dobson and June Shuff; and two brothers, Jim and Don Crawford. A 1942 graduate of Eichelberger High School, he was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ. In 1979, he retired after 24 years of service as a postal clerk from the Harrisburg Post Office.

Mr. Crawford was a US Navy veteran of World War II and in 1947 he served a tour of duty in Antarctica with Admiral Richard E. Byrd aboard the USS Yancey. He was a member of the, Harold H. Bair American Legion Post #14, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 2506, Patmos Lodge #348 F&AM, and the Homewood Master Mason Lunch Group. He was a former member of Amvets Post #22 and the Hanover Elks BPOE #763.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 64 years, is his brother, Jack Crawford and his wife, Sandy, of Hanover; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Homewood Chapel at Plum Creek with The Rev. Joel B. Hummel and The Rev. Dr. Richard Krebs officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Adams County Allied Veterans Council. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
