W. Maria Oaster, 62, of Hanover, loving wife of Thomas R. Oaster, entered into God’s eternal care on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Village following complications with lung cancer.
Born on May 20, 1947 in Munich, Germany, she was a daughter of Waldemar J. Lachmann of Spring Grove and the late Ingeborg Kuhnert Lachmann, who died December 30, 1995. She was a 1965 graduate of South Western High School and was employed by Hanover Hospital for 38 years, most recently serving as a pharmacy buyer. She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and was an avid reader. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and cross-stitch projects and always made time to play with her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of 40 years and her father, she is survived by her five daughters, Diane M. Greenwald of Kansas, Deborah A. Abernathy of Chambersburg, Michelle L. Garrett of Hanover, Anna M. Crowl of Taneytown, MD and Gabrielle L. Balthazor of Carlisle; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Roswitha Geiman of Hanover and Margaret Kallas of Spring Grove.
