W. Max Rohrbaugh, 92, of Hanover, beloved husband of Carla J. Sheaffer Rohrbaugh, entered into God’s eternal on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Homewood at Plum Creek.
Born on Tuesday, December 16, 1924 in Glendale, CA, he was a son of the late William B. and Aimee Diehl Rohrbaugh. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Rohrbaugh. A 1942 graduate of Eichelberger High School, he was a faithful member of Trinity United Church of Christ where he served on the Consistory for six years and had also served as the church treasurer. He was as a Sergeant with the US Army Air Corps during World War II and later served three years in the Pennsylvania National Guard.
Mr. Rohrbaugh retired in 1987 from the Pennsylvania Department of Banking where he was a field bank examiner. Prior to that, he was the Hanover branch manager of the Dauphin Deposit Bank. He was a member of the Hanover Elks BPOE # 763, the Friends of the Guthrie Memorial Library and was a longtime member of the Hanover Area Historical Society. He was an avid golfer until the age of 85 and could be seen walking nine holes at the Flat Bush Golf Course. Max also enjoyed playing cards and participated in a Tuesday night Bridge foursome at the Hanover Elks Lodge. He and his wife had a daily routine of meeting with friends at the McDonald’s on Carlisle Street. After his retirement, they traveled extensively, including a two month, 15,000 mile, trip to Alaska.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 70 years, are four children, Ann Rohrbaugh and her husband, Brian Kastman , of Kalamazoo, MI, Bill Rohrbaugh and his wife, Tracey, of Medina, OH, John Rohrbaugh and his wife, Jane, of Leesburg, VA, and Jeff Rohrbaugh and his wife, Bridgette, of Downingtown; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Following cremation, a graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Monday, July 10, 2017 at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 725 Baltimore Street, Hanover with The Rev. Scott Morgan officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends following the service at Trinity United Church of Christ, Hanover.
