Vonnie Lee Sowers

Vonnie Lee Sowers, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend passed into the presence of her Savior in the pre-dawn hours of Sunday, August 16, 2020. Her last audible words were, “Take me Lord.” For decades her heart’s desire and longing was for peace to reign. With Jesus, she now knows peace in its fullest measure.

Vonnie loved the beauty of nature, the sound of laughter, and the warm embrace of family and friends. She could easily spend hours simply soaking in the sight and sound of the ocean, and watching the activity of the birds outside her sun-room windows. The mesmerizing and graceful dance of the hummingbirds was likely her favorite. Vonnie greatly appreciated family gatherings, and worked tirelessly to make her house a home for her family.

Born on August 15, 1944 in York, Vonnie was second oldest of five girls. Life called on her early to be greatly instrumental in the raising of the younger three. Vonnie found support, kindness, and love at the Grace and Hope Mission Church, on Market Street. The dear and precious ladies there impacted her life, introducing her to Jesus.

Vonnie is survived by her life-long love, Raymond E. Sowers; two sons Rick Sowers and his wife, Patty, and Ray Sowers and his wife, Paula; a daughter Ruth Shenberger and her husband, Mike; and four grandchildren, Justin and Brandon Brady, and Mikayla and Cedric Sowers.

Memorial celebration for family will be held at a later time.
