Violet M. Haar

Violet M. Haar, 90, of New Oxford, died at The Brethren Home Community on Saturday, May 11, 2013.





Born August 7, 1922 in Abbottstown, she was a daughter of the late Earl D. and Annie Eliza Maul Rodgers, and was preceded in death by her husband of more than 70 years, Glenn M. Haar, who died November 19, 2012; a sister, Janet Geiman, and a brother, E. Dale Rodgers.





Mrs. Haar was a life-long member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Abottstown, as well as the Sunshine Sisters Sunday School class. She loved children and worked for many years in the cafeteria of the New Oxford Elementary School and as a teacher's assistant for the Lincoln Intermediate Unit. She was also a member of the New Oxford chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.





Survivors include two daughters, Shelby Haar Zaner and her husband, Dr. John A. Zaner, Gorham, Maine; Patricia J. Kelley and her husband, Scott L. Kelley, York, Pennsylvania; four granddaughters, Dr. Rebecca Zaner and her husband, Hygenes Garcia, Glendale, Arizona; Amanda Kelley Gilbert and her husband, Richard Gilbert, Richmond, Virginia; Suzanne Zaner and her partner, Salissa Wahlers, Burlington, Vermont; Dr. Lauren Kelley Smith and her husband, Darren A. Smith, York, Pennsylvania; one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Glenn Gilbert; three brothers, Charles Rodgers, Robert Rodgers, Wayne Rodgers; and sister, E. Nadine Nace.





Services will be private.





Memorial contributions may be made in Violet’s memory to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 100 East Water Street, Abbottstown, Pennsylvania 17301.
