Thomas R. Shoop, 89, of Hanover, died unexpectedly on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at York Hospital.
Born on July 11, 1920 in Baltimore, MD, he was a son of the late Eugene and Addie Clingan Shoop, and husband of 66 years to the late Erma Remlein Shoop, who died in 2009. He was also preceded in death by a brother, John F. Shoop and a sister, Lily Shoop Thompson.
Mr. Shoop was employed as Chief Engineer with Wolfe and Mann Manufacturing Co, Baltimore MD, later with Gould Electronics, Westminster, MD and retired in 1985 from Electronic Power Control, Baltimore MD. He served with the US Army in Germany during World War II.
Affectionately known as “Duck,” he enjoyed nature, gardening, and watching the birds around his 1762 farmhouse. He spent time woodcarving and following the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens. He was a season ticket holder and avid Baltimore Colts fan. History and all that it could teach was important to him.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Austin and her husband, Bob, of Shrewsbury and Amy Boone and her husband, James, of Stewartstown; a son, Steven Richard Shoop of Ocean City, MD; nine grandchildren, Kate, Julie and Matt Austin, Emily Spahn, Jessica, Andrew and Steven Shoop, Jr. and Evan and Clare Boone and a brother James Shoop of California.
A service to remember and celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc. 311 Broadway, Hanover, with The Rev. Kenneth S. Heasley officiating. Burial will be private. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
