Thomas Allen Duttera

Thomas Allen Duttera, 80, of Hanover, husband of Jean A. Wolf Duttera, went to meet his heavenly Father on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Hanover Hospital after falling ill unexpectedly at his home.

Born on April 27, 1933 in Hanover, he was the son of the late John W. Duttera, Sr. and Mildred Eltz Duttera. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Breighner.

Mr. Duttera was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean War. A longtime employee of P.H. Glatfelter, he was a member of their Quarter Century Club before his retirement in 1999. Following his retirement, he enjoyed driving vehicles for Dick Sneeringer, Inc. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hanover Home Association, McSherrystown Moose, Harold H. Bair American Legion Post #14, McSherrystown Knights of Columbus and McSherrystown Home Association, where he was a life member. He was an avid New York Yankee and Notre Dame fan and loved history and reading.

In addition to his wife of 59 years, he is survived by a son, Allen T. Duttera and his wife, Sandra of Abbottstown; four daughters, Shari Leyva of McSherrystown, Wanda Orndorff and her husband, Edwin of New Oxford, Renee Sterner and her husband, Todd of Spring Grove and Sonya Baker of McSherrystown; nine grandchildren, Stacy Smith and her husband, Darrin, Amber Longenecker and her husband, Aaron, Lindsay Veres and her husband, Mihai, Nathan Sterner, Shane and Steven Baker, Alexia Colin and her husband, Giovannni, Andrea Leyva and Conor Orndorff; six great-grandchildren, Claudia, Annika, Camden and Amanda Smith, Mario Colin and Sophia Longenecker; and brother, John Duttera, Jr. and his wife, Joyce of Littlestown.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 am Friday, February 28, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with The Rev. Stephen Kelley serving as celebrant. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery with military graveside rites being rendered by Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Shane and Steven Baker, Nathan and Todd Sterner, Edwin Orndorff and Jeff Duttera will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at a viewing from 6 pm to 8 pm Thursday evening at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rosary being recited at 8 pm.
