Thomas Sanford Bockoven, Sr., 83, of Hanover, PA, loving husband of Dorothy Watson Bockoven for 58 years, died Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Homewood at Plum Creek of pneumonia.
Born on March 3, 1927 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Dr. Sterling Bockoven and Marie Lomas Main. He is survived by his beloved daughter Carol Watson Bockoven and his son Thomas S. Bockoven, Jr. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Arline Bowman.
A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, he majored in industrial design. He worked as a Senior Mechanical Engineer for most of his career. He served as production manager on many commercial art and design projects for corporations such as Booz Allen Applied Research and Bechtel Corp., from which he retired in 1987.
He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II.
Prior to relocating to Hanover, PA in 2007, he lived Westminster and Annapolis, MD. While in Westminster, he was a member of the Roaring Run Lion’s Club and St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. He had an affinity for antique cars, philosophy, and architectural design projects.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover, PA with The Rev. Austin L. Chinault II officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until the time of the service.
