Thelma Trail Harris, 88, of Hanover, died peacefully on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at her home following a period of declining health.
Born on Sunday, September 8, 1929 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Emma B. Gernhart Hooper and Robert L. Hooper, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, John E. Trail, Sr., who died in 1953; her second husband of 48 years, Richard H. Harris, who died in 2015, and two brothers, Raymond Hooper and Robert L. Hooper, Jr.
Thelma and Richard lived for many years in North Fort Myers, FL before moving to Hanover. A longtime member and greeter at Hanover First Church of God, she was warm and welcoming and was always the last one seated. Very crafty, she enjoyed crocheting and making baby’s hats and afghans which she would give to the local hospitals. She enjoyed bowling and golfing. Thelma was a mentor to many young women and was a loving mother to her children and her extended family.
Surviving are her children, Barbara Beville and her husband, Chuck Shorter, Nancy Carfine and her husband, Armond, all of Baltimore, MD, Linda Jackson and her husband, Jeffrey of Dover, Richard Harris of Montrose, CA, John Trail, Jr. and his wife, Denise of Finksburg, MD, Bremen Trail and his wife, Debbie of Reisterstown, MD, Cathy Berzins of Ocean View, DE and Kevin Harris and his wife, Amy of Salisbury, MD; 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Hanover First Church of God with Pastor Jerry Shoap officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
