T. James “Jim” Blemings, 83, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 12, 2018 at Rest Haven- York Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Born in Upper Darby, PA, he was a son of the late John W. Blemings and Helen Lahey Blemings Alexander. He was also preceded in death by three sons, David, Brian, and James “Jimmy” Blemings, Jr.; a daughter, Theresa Bauer; a grandchild, Candice; a great-grandson, Marcus; four brothers, John “Jack”, Robert, Phillip, and William Blemings; two sisters, Theresa “Nancy” Weaver and Mary Elizabeth Haley; and a daughter-in-law, Jacquelyn Stremmel.
Jim was formerly employed as a cook at Bay City Restaurant in Hanover. Later, while living in Florida, Jim enjoyed being a truck driver for Fischer’s Deliver-All and continued under the new ownership, Dobson the Mover, until retiring in 2000. He was proud to have served in the United States Army during the Korean War and had received a Purple Heart and a Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars during his service. He was a member of the Harold H. Bair American Legion Post #14 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1406. A very patient man, he loved to read and enjoyed watching game shows on television.
Survivors include his wife, Gean F. Blemings; three step-sons, Barry Stremmel, Carl Stremmel, Sr. and his wife, Wanda, and Duane Stremmel and his wife, Suzanne; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a sister, Helen “Sis” Yarosz; a brother, Paul Blemings and his wife, Joyce; numerous nieces and nephews; three brothers-in-laws; and two sisters-in-law.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 10am on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with Chaplain-Colonel H.P. Kissinger officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery.
