Shirley Ann Gerrick Richards, 77, of Carlisle, entered into God’s eternal care on Monday, November 16, 2015 at her home.
Born on Saturday, May 7, 1938 in Littlestown, she had lived most of her adult life in Hanover. She was a daughter of the late Alvin C. and Myra Rebert Gerrick and was also preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Gass; two brothers-in-law, Karl Gass and Wilbert Messinger; and nephews, Edward and Paul Gass. She was a 1956 graduate of Littlestown High School.
Shirley was an operator with United Telephone, in Hanover, for several years and was a former employee with Malcolm Spinning Mills, and retired from Hanover Foods. She had a servant spirit and was a member of Christ Church United Church of Christ and enjoyed participating in church activities, singing in the choir, and the fellowship that comes with visiting different churches. Shirley loved to sing and was active with the Hanover Community Singers. She volunteered many hours with WPFG 91.3, a Christian radio station in Carlisle. Shirley was raised on a farm and took great pleasure being outdoors and gardening.
Survivors include her daughter, Rebecca A. Richards; a granddaughter, Sadie M. Richards, both of Carlisle; a sister, Janet Messinger of Littlestown; several nieces and nephews; and the extended family and friends from Hanover Brands and other family members in Florida.
The funeral will be held at 12 noon Wednesday at Christ Church United Church of Christ, 131 Christ Church Road, Littlestown with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held one hour prior to the service.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm Saturday at Waggoners United Methodist Church, 1271 Longs Gap Road, Carlisle.
