Samuel “Sam” Walter Garland (Happy Pappy), 71, of Hanover, passed away on Sunday, May 19th, 2024.
Sam was born on August 12th, 1952, in Gettysburg, PA. He was the son of the late Julia A. (McBeth) Garland and the husband of the late Wendy Garland, with whom he shared 35 years of marriage.
Sam attended Biglerville High School and worked for Knouse Food Company as a forklift operator. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, listening to oldies music, watching old TV shows, mowing the grass, watching baseball games, sprint car races, and wrestling matches, and collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia. Sam also cherished catching up with his coffee buddies at local restaurants.
Sam is survived by his daughters, Kari Weaver and her husband Brant of East Berlin, and Amanda Chinnick and her fiancé Ricky Clinton of Arendtsville; his stepdaughter, Carlene Valois, and her husband Regis of France; his grandchildren, Marlee Weaver, Garret Clinton, and Gabriel Valois; his sister-in-law, Jo Ann Yeinst and her husband Jason; his brothers-in-laws, Norman Lybrand, George Lybrand and his wife Cindy, Jeff Lybrand and his wife Marica, and Cofer Lybrand and his wife Fritzell; and his beloved cat, Lily.
Sam was preceded in death by his grandson, Dylan Chinnick.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 9th, from 1-4 PM at Red Brick and Roots, 1246 Route 194N, Abbottstown, PA, 17301.
Sam’s family would like to thank the Emergency Department and PCU staff at UPMC Hanover Hospital for the wonderful care he received there as a patient. We will be forever grateful.
