Ruth M. Duke, 95, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at Homewood of Plum Creek.
Born on October 19, 1915 in New Chester, PA, she was a daughter of the late Jacob M. and Cora C. Eckert Myers and wife of 45 years to the late Spurgeon C. Duke, who died October 7, 2001.
She retired from Middleburg Mfg. Co. following many years of service. She enjoyed working with her hands and spent her time sewing, quilting and making crafts and macramé.
Survivors include her daughter, Doris M. Hemler and her husband, James D. Hemler, Jr. of Taneytown, MD; three grandchildren, Charlene Slaybaugh of Harney, MD, Tina Niebuhr of Westminster, MD and James “Tony” Hemler of Taneytown, MD; eight great grandchildren, Samantha Parthree, Bryan Hemler, Jason and Laura Slaybaugh, and Andrea, James, Bryan and Casey Niebuhr; and one great-great grandchild, Jeremiah Hemler. She was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters, Beatrice C. “Beb” Myers, Allen A. Myers, Sr., Jacob E. “Jake” Myers, Donald F. “Dup” Myers and Evelyn M. Leonard.
The funeral will be held at 11AM Monday, January 31, 2011 at the Chapel at Homewood at Plum Creek with The Rev. Joel C. Hummel officiating. Burial will follow in Marburg Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at a viewing from 4-7 pm on Sunday evening at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc, 311 Broadway, Hanover.
