Ruby R. Stevens, 99, of Hanover, died Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Cross Keys Village—The Brethren Home Community following a brief period of declining health.

Born on January 7, 1912 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Cletus and Annie Little Bortner and wife of the late Robert A. Stevens. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Goss; a grandson, Andrew Goss; two brothers, Ernest and John Bortner and two sisters, Mary Steffee and Naomi Johnston.

A 1930 graduate of Hanover High School, she volunteered at the Hospitality Shop at Hanover Hospital for over 40 years. She was a lifetime member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and was devoted to her family and their activities. She loved to cook and will be remembered for her bean soup and chicken potpie. She also enjoyed reading, taking bus trips and knitting.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Bell and her husband, Philip of Fayetteville; five grandchildren, Steve Goss, Melinda Bassler, Cathy Routzounis, Allen Bell and Bruce Bell; seven great-grandchildren, Erik Bassler, Allison Berg, Tyler and Caitlyn Goss, Emilia Routzounis, Lauren and Addison Bell; a great-great-grandchild due to be born in December; and three nieces and two nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11 AM Thursday, May 19, 2011 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church with The Rev. E. Edward Keyser officiating. Burial will take place at 1:30 pm Thursday at Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the viewing in the church parlor one hour prior to the service.
