Ruby Coop, 86, of Glenville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 14, 2014.

Born on Sunday, June 26, 1927 in Washington, DC, Ruby, the last surviving sibling, was the fourth of five children of the late Joseph James and Laura Carpenter Sullivan. She was a 1950 graduate of Moody Bible Institute and trained as a nurse at Bellevue Hospital in New York graduating in 1954.

After working as a registered nurse for several years, she was accepted by the Sudan Interior Mission and went as a missionary to Sudan where she met her husband, Donald C. Coop, of New Zealand. They married and served together in Africa for 23 years. When they returned to the states, she worked at Doctor’s Hospital in Lanham, MD for nearly 13 years until she retired. She was an active member of Grace Bible Church in Lanham. In recent years, they moved to Glenville and were active at the Hanover First Church of God.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 54 years, is her daughter, Edie Coop of Glenville; her daughter-in-law, Tina Coop; a granddaughter, Bailey Coop both of Walkersville, MD; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Coop.

The funeral will be held at 11 am Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the Hanover First Church of God with Pastors Dan Thomas and Jerry Shoap officiating. A graveside service will follow at 2 pm Thursday at Marburg Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
