Services: A funeral service to remember and celebrate his life will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 30 West Chestnut St., Hanover.
Visitation: Viewings will be Tuesday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Nicarry Meetinghouse at the The Brethren Home Community, 2990 Carlisle Pike, New Oxford where he had been a guest over the past year and in the Church parlor at St. Matthew Lutheran Church Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Roy Bollinger, Jr., 84, of Hanover entered into God’s eternal care 8:42 a.m. Friday morning, August 24, 2007, at Hanover Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Golden Bollinger to whom he was married over 61 years.Born in Hanover on September 4, 1922, he was the son of the late Roy Bollinger Sr. and Selene Ennis Bollinger.Mr. Bollinger graduated from Eichelberger High School with the class of 1940.In 1943 he joined the Army and served his country with pride, honor and valor as a Sergeant with the 101st Calvary Squadron Reconnaissance Mechanized in the European Theater of operations. For his service as a Tank Driver in the battles and campaigns for the Rhineland and Central Europe, he was awarded the European, African Middel Eastern Theater Service Medal with two bronze stars. Following the war, Mr. Bollinger returned to Hanover, and on April 20, 1946, married his girfriend of six years Mary Golden.After learning the building trade, he eventually began a career as a self-employed electrical, heating and plumbing contractor in Hanover before accepting a position with Agway Petroleum , York until retiring in 1984.Mr. Bollinger was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and had served on the Church Council.As a young boy, Mr. Bollinger developed a passion for aviation and at the age of 16 learned to fly. Eventually he earned his Private Pilot license and often flew planes from the former Devener Airport on Broadway in Hanover.In retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family and beloved pets. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Sue Hoffman of Dover, Janice Bollinger of Hanover, a son Roy Bollinger, III and his wife Jill of York, a brother Earl Bollinger and wife Dorothy of Hanover a sister Dorothy Bollinger of Hanover and his beloved Shih Tzu “Chloe”Mr. Bollinger was preceded in death by 2 brothers John and Richard Bollinger and two infant daughters.A funeral service to remember and celebrate his life will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 30 West Chestnut St., Hanover.
