Rosalie Ann Hobbs, 86, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Friday, February 21, 2025 at SpiriTrust Lutheran – The Village at Utz Terrace.
Rosalie’s life read like a story—not a fairytale, but a rich, poignant narrative punctuated by history. Born on July 29, 1938, she grew up poor but surrounded by love, wearing potato sack dresses, going about daily life with no indoor plumbing and watching her mother’s many failed hatchet attempts on their farm. She was a 1956 graduate of Frederick High School.
Though she dreamed of journalism, the 1950s led her to business school, where her typing skills earned her a job with Congressman Dante Fascell. She worked at the Pentagon during the Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis, handling classified information with strict security. She was on the National Mall for the march on Washington—though unaware of the history unfolding before her. On November 22, 1963, she relayed the chilling message that President Kennedy had been shot, just days after the Congressman voiced fears for his safety.
Caring for her dying first husband led her to nursing, where she witnessed the tragic consequences of unsafe abortions before Roe v. Wade. She later found peace in geriatric care. In retirement, she devoted herself to volunteering, her church, and sharing her faith with children at Bible school.
In her final days, she spoke eagerly of seeing Jesus’s face. On February 21, 2025, her wish was fulfilled. She is reunited with loved ones in a joyful celebration beyond this world.
Mark 5:34 – “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be free from suffering.”
Rosalie was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Agnes Harne; her first husband, Albert F. Baker and her second husband, Andrew D. Hobbs. She is survived by four children Lisa McEwan, Cathy Hobbs, Ed (Pam) Hobbs and Debbie (Chris) Franz; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
There will be an informal gathering of friends and family to share stories of Rosalie on Tuesday, February 25th from 1-3pm at SpiriTrust Lutheran, 1700 Utz Terrace in Hanover.
