Rodney “Rod” L. Henderson, 57, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, October 7, 2013 at his home in Hanover.
Born on Wednesday, February 29, 1956 in Gettysburg, he was a son of the late Clarence F. Varner and Erma L. Suder Henderson. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Linda Sharrah of Biglerville. He was a US Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. Henderson was a hard working self-employed painter, who enjoyed the history of Gettysburg and the Civil War.
Surviving include his loving companion of 12 years, Merelyn D. Shellington; two daughters, Hope L. Reichart of Hanover, and Kelly Godwin of Duncan, SC; a son, Troy Henderson of Jacksonville, Fl; nine grandchildren; two brothers, John “Butch” Henderson and his wife, Alice of Cascade, MD and Vince Henderson and his wife, Rose of Aspers; four sisters, Doris Jean Handcock of Shippensburg, Marlene Henderson of Fairfield, Bertha Ulrich of Spring Grove, and Darlene Bakner of Waynesboro; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dachshunds; Gretchen, Reesee, and Blu.
The family will receive friends at a viewing from 6-8:00 PM Monday, October 14, 2013 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc, 311 Broadway, Hanover.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the funeral home to assist with the final expenses.
