Robert F. Orndorff, 86, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 25, 2015 with his wife, Carole, at his side.
Born on Thursday, May 31, 1928, in Hanover, he was the son of the late Claude and Hattie Reichart Orndorff. He was also preceded in death by the mother of his children, Elizabeth M. Eline Orndorff and their eldest child, Keith E. Orndorff.
Mr. Orndorff was a 1946 graduate of Eichelberger High School and retired from American-National Can Corporation in 1991 after 32 years of service. He was an active member and past president of the United Steel Workers Union Local #6021. He was a life member of the Hanover Amvets Post #22, and the McSherrystown Home Association. He was also a member of the Hanover Elks BPOE #763, the Hanover Republican Club, the Hanover Home Association, and the McSherrystown Loyal Order of Moose #720.
Survivors include his wife, Carole Jamison Orndorff; his daughter, Leslie A. Bechtel and her husband, John H. Bechtel III, of Carlisle; a son, Brad D. Orndorff, Hanover; two grandsons, William Jed Orndorff, Hanover, and John H. Bechtel IV, Carlisle; and two great grandchildren, Olivia P. Bechtel and John H. (Jake) Bechtel V.
An Elks Ritual Service will be held at 6 pm Monday, June 1, 2015 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover. A memorial service will follow with The Rev. Kathryn Schroeder officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am Tuesday at Mount Olive Cemetery in Abbottstown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
