Robert A. Nickell Sr.

Robert A. “Bob” Nickell, Sr., 83, of Hanover, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 4, 2023 Harrisburg, PA.

Born on Wednesday, October 4, 1939 in Galion, OH, he was a son of the late Delbert and Maxine Dodd Nickell. He was also preceded in death by his wife of more than 49 years, Sallie Lou Ryan Nickell, who died in 2012. A 1957 graduate of Galion High School, he later served as a Lieutenant in the US Army Reserve. Bob will be remembered as a dedicated hard working employee who retired from Clayton Homes in North Carolina, where he was a purchasing agent for several years. He was a member of the Providence United Methodist Church in Salisbury, NC and the 30 – 30 Club in Galion. Bob enjoyed music. He sang in various church choirs and played the accordion in his younger years.

Survivors include his son, Robert Allyn Nickell, Jr. and his wife, Patty, of North Carolina; daughters, Barbara Anne (Nickell) Young and her husband, Ron, of Georgia and Vanessa Ann (Nickell) Gorgano and her husband, Tony of California; a sister, Rebecca “Becky” Nickell-Bloom of Ohio; a brother, David Nickell of Ohio; and grandchildren, Jessica Craig and her husband, Don, Christopher Rhinehart, all of Iowa, Matthew Young and his wife, Dana, of Nebraska, Corey Wilson and his wife, Isaura, Cody Wilson and his wife, Cynthia, all of California; nine great-grandchildren; and his longtime friend and companion, Sue Sheely Jobe.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, February 10, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church, 202 N. Thoman Street, Crestline, OH 44827 with The Rev. Rick McCarthy officiating.
