Robert B. Millheim, Jr., 60, of Hanover, passed away at his sister’s home, surrounded by his family and friends on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 following a long battle with cancer.

Born on Wednesday, January 27, 1954 in Hanover, he was the son of Velma Flickinger Millheim of Hanover and the late Robert B. Millheim, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Jasmine Sky Myers. A 1972 graduate of Littletown High School, he was a veteran of the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and later served in the Maryland Air National Guard. He spent his career in masonry and was employed by several contractors in the Hanover and Baltimore, MD areas prior to his illness. Bob was a member of many organizations in the Hanover area and most notable was his membership of over 25 years in the Harold H. Bair American Legion Post #14. He served as an Officer of Post #14 for many years, was elected to their highest office, Post Commander, in 2009 and 2013, and held the office of the Vice President of the Legion Riders. In addition, he served as the 2010 President of the Hanover Allied Veteran’s Council. He was a passionate Pittsburgh Steelers’ fan as well as an avid Harley rider, who rode with many groups around the area.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Bobbi J. Millheim of York; a sister, Karen L. Millheim of Hanover; a brother, Lonnie E. Millheim and his wife, Melinda of McSherrystown and their children, Mark, Amanda and Eric; honorary children, Brooke Myers and Justin Slusser; and many good friends, especially those who were like a second family at Post #14.

The funeral will be held at 10 am Monday, July 7, 2014 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Peg Grzelkowski officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with military graveside rites being rendered by Hanover Allied Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Sunday evening, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion, Post #14, 201 Carlisle Street, Hanover, PA 17331; to the Make A Wish Foundation of Greater PA, 2951 Whiteford Road, Suite 304, York PA 17402 or to any charity of your choice in his name.
