Robert J. Gibiser, 87, formerly of Schnecksville, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at his home in Hanover following a heart attack.
Born on July 2, 1925 in Allentown, he lived in Schnecksville for most of his life before moving to Hanover three months ago. He was the youngest child of Joseph and Cecilia Kropf Gibiser and was preceded in death by his four brothers and three sisters. A veteran of the United States Navy, he served during World War II. Prior to his retirement in 1982, he was employed by Modern Transfer and Smith’s Transfer. Following his retirement, he was very active with the Schnecksville Fire Department, holding numerous offices within the organization. He was a member of Vernon G. Kern Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8344, Schnecksville and the Odd Fellows Lodge #192. Having a creative eye for detail, he enjoyed working in his yard, painting and making artistic eggs at Easter.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Edna M. Tessmer Gibiser; a daughter, Joyce E. Wendler of Hanover; a grandson, Matthew R. Wendler of Pittsburgh and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be private.
