Robert A. Elmiger, 83, of Hanover, husband of the late Catherine Ann Elmiger, of Bel Air, Maryland, went to be with the Lord on June 11,2013.
Born on Monday, March 10, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Herman and Anna Amelia Lang Elmiger. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Troy, NY in 1951.
Mr. Elmiger served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He worked for Westinghouse and General Electric until retiring in 1991. During his career, he invented the underground radar system, was instrumental in developing the first space launch to Mars, the first atomic submarine, and the Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS). Robert served as President for both the Top Hatters Dance Club and Toastmasters International; where he won numerous awards for speech competitions, and is a former member of Christ Our King Church in Bel Air, MD. He loved politics, wood working and dogs.
He is survived by his son; Robert H. Elmiger, and his wife Maria; and one granddaughter; Anastasia N. Sidor, and husband Scott, all of Glenville.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 30, 2013, at 1:30pm at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc, 311 Broadway Hanover, with Pastor Michael Coarson officiating. The burial will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
