Robert E. Brandt, 82, of Hanover, PA entered the Church Triumphant on Monday, May 25, 2015 at Homewood at Plum Creek.



A native of Phillips, NE, he was born on Sunday, September 4, 1932. He received his bachelor’s degree in Science Education from the University of Nebraska and later earned his master’s degree in Adult Education from George Washington University. After successfully completing the ROTC program and upon his graduation from college in 1953, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army and was stationed at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds. He married Gladys Irene Wittwer in August 1954. Following his military service, he remained at Aberdeen as a civilian employee until his retirement in 1993.





Mr. Brandt was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, MD. He was always active in the church communities in which he belonged and especially enjoyed singing in church choir. He was a member of the Aberdeen Lions Club and served as the chairman of the Harford County (MD) School District’s School Concert Committee. He was an active member of the Harford County Fuel Fund and took pleasure in traveling, watching baseball and football, and listening to classical music.



Survivors include his wife of nearly 61 years, Gladys W. Brandt; two daughters, Judith Aikens and her husband, William G. Aikens, of Pittsburgh and Janet Blackwell and her husband, Jeff, of Bel Air, MD; five grandchildren, William E. Aikens, Catherine Harris, Jennifer Aikens, Robert Blackwell, and Christopher Blackwell; and two great-grandsons, William T. Aikens and Jeffrey Robert Blackwell.



A memorial service will be held at 11 am Friday, May 29, 2015 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover, PA with The Rev. Dr. Daniel M. Yeiser officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 am Friday in the church parlor.



A graveside service will be held at 11 am Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Harford Memorial Gardens on Aldino Road in Aberdeen, MD with The Rev. Edward Robbins officiating.



In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Matthew Lutheran Church Organ Fund, 30 W. Chestnut Street, Hanover, PA 17331 or to the American Cancer Society, 924-N. Colonial Avenue, York, PA 17403.
