Major Robert B. “Bob” Cave, 88, of Hanover, PA, beloved husband of Pauline “Polly” Dodds Cave, entered into God’s eternal care on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at UPMC Hanover.
Born on Saturday, October 26, 1935 in Keyser, WV, he was a son of the late Bruce E. and Virginia Wilt Cave. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Karen M. Cave; and a grandson, Alexander Moffatt Cave. A 1953 graduate of Bruce High school in Westernport, MD, he later attended Potomac State College, Towson University and the University of Baltimore. Bob proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the US Army and retired in 1985 as a Major from the Maryland State Police after 25 years of service. He was a devoted Lutheran and was long active as a leader with the Boy Scouts of America. An avid outdoorsman, he was an “Adirondack 46er”, a “New England 111er”, enjoyed being an AT Trail Maintainer for 25 years and was an accomplished and award winning water fowl carver.
In addition to his wife of 63 years, he is survived by a son, Robert B. Cave, II and his wife, Kathleen Garner, of Parkton, MD; a daughter, Kathleen M. Ridge and her husband, James, of Hanover; a brother, Charles M. Cave and his wife, Linda, of Ellicott City, MD; and four grandchildren, Tyler J. Ridge of Hanover, Margaret K. Cave of Parkton, Makenzie R. Ridge of Hanover, and Hunter M. Ridge of Virginia Beach, VA.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on May 18, 2024 at Homewood Chapel at Plum Creek, 425 Westminster Avenue in Hanover. The family will receive friends following the service. Please call 443-761-1249 and leave a message if you plan to attend the memorial and reception.
