Robert L. Bechtel, Sr., 78, of Hanover, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Hanover Hall Nursing Center.
Born on Saturday, August 8, 1936 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Earl L. and Lottie Anne Stump Bechtel. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Stephen Robert Bechtel and Robert L. Bechtel, Jr.; and a sister, Joyce Miller. He was a 1955 graduate of Eichelberger High School.
Mr. Bechtel was the owner and operator of Robert Bechtel Plumbing and Heating and was a member of St. Bartholomew’s United Church (ELCA). He enjoyed watching NASCAR races and was an avid outdoorsman who took great pleasure in hunting and fishing.
Survivors include four children, Sherry K. Shaffer and her husband, Chet, of Manchester, MD, Lorrie A. Redding and her husband, Wayne, of Littlestown, James E. “Jim” Bechtel and his companion, Valerie Wege, and Tricia M. Krysiak and her husband, Rob, all of Hanover; four sisters, Doris Simpson, Shirley Neiderer, Annette Sell and Brenda Shank; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a special “grandson”, Stevie Trump.
A memorial service will be held at 7 pm Thursday, January 29, 2015 at St. Bartholomew’s United Church (ELCA), 1204 Grand Valley Road, Hanover, with The Rev. Steven E. Thomas and Pastor Gerry Stoltzfoos officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held privately at Rest Haven Cemetery.
