Richard L. “Dick” Stevens, 62, of Spring Grove, loving husband of Beverly Utz Stevens, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on Monday, January 31, 2011 at his residence following a short illness.
Born on March 13, 1948 in Hanover, he was the youngest son of the late Frederick and Doris Colehouse Stevens. He was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Larry Stevens and Robert Stevens. A 1966 graduate of Hanover High School, he had been employed by P.H. Glatfelter Company for 42 years. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and enjoyed fishing, working in his garden and vacationing to the beach with his family.
In addition to his wife of 43 years, he is survived by two sons, Richard L. Stevens, Jr. and his wife, Stacey, and Craig A. Stevens and his wife, Deb, all of Hanover; five grandchildren, Cody, Conner, Lily, Cameron and Emily Stevens; three step-grandchildren, Elizabeth Wiley, Theresa Cox and Michael Cox; one step-great-granddaughter, Addison Stiffler; one sister, Nancy Mummert of Spring Grove; a mother-in-law, Mary Utz of Hanover, four sisters-in-law, Diane Altland and her husband, Marlin, of Hanover, Cathy Utz and companion Keith Trimmer of Mt.Wolf, Karen Stevens of Hanover and Nellie Stevens of Virginia Beach, VA; two brothers-in-law, Barry Utz and his wife, Missy of Hanover and Gene Utz and his wife, Theresa of New Oxford; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 11 am Friday, February 4, 2011 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with The Rev. Jack R. Hoffman and The Rev. Larry A. McConnell officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery with Cody Stevens, Scott Stevens, Shane Stevens, Mike Altland, Joe Deamer, and Todd Ray serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Conner, Cameron, Lily and Emily Stevens. The family will receive friends at a viewing from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
