Richard F. Messinger

Richard F. “Rich” Messinger, 87, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at UPMC Hanover Hospital.

Born on Friday, July 21, 1933 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Ralph E. and Emma Amspacher Messinger. The last of his generation, he was preceded in death by his seven siblings. Rich served his country with great pride and honor in the US Army from July 1950, when he served during the Korean War, until his honorable discharge in July 1953 having received a Medal of Honor. After the Army, he began his trade in life as a licensed tool and die machinist at the old Hanover Tool and Die Company and later at Buchron Tool and Die, until their closure, before retiring from PCI. Rich was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and served as a Penn Township Commissioner in the early 1970’s. He and his wife, Connie, enjoyed delivering “The Merchandiser” for 13 years on the one street and seven avenues that surrounded their home, and he was a great companion to their two large dogs. He enjoyed watching the South Western school events that his children were in. Now rest in peace, Dear one, with our Savior.

Survivors include his wife of more than 67 years and love of his life, Connie; four loving children, Cindy Messinger Louey and her husband, Russ, of Haymarket, VA, Richard Messinger and his wife, Deana, of Dillsburg, Candy Messinger and Rodney Messinger and his wife, Stephanie, all of Hanover; five grandchildren, Russell and Kevin Louey, and Heidi, Craig and Blair Messinger; two great-grandsons, Dylan and Colin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private service will be held.
