Richard Everett Knapp, 83, of Hanover, beloved husband of 60 years to Kathleen McAtee Knapp, entered into God’s eternal care Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Cross Keys Village-The Brethren Home Community following a period of declining health.
Born April 17, 1927 in Lawrenceville, PA, he was the only child of the late Cecil W. and Mildred Evangeline Quackenbush Knapp. He was a graduate of Lawrenceville High School and later attended Mansfield State University. He spent his entire professional career employed by Corning, Inc and retired in 1982.
A veteran of the United States Army during World War II, he spent years acquiring a collection of World War II German Militaria. He was a member of the Harold H. Bair American Legion Post #14, and a lifetime member of the VFW, with his local membership held with the Hanover VFW Post # 2506. He was also a lifetime member of the Corning NY Elks Lodge B.P.O.E #1071, a new member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, York Street in Hanover and an avid hunter and fisherman.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by several cousins and their families.
A private service will be held.
