Richard A. "Rick" Frey, 59, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 30, 2024 at UPMC Harrisburg.
Born on Monday, November 22, 1965 in Hanover, Rick was the son of the late Oliver H. Frey Jr. and Patricia D. McKinney Frey. Rick achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was a 1983 graduate of South Western High School. He was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and proudly served his country for 29 years. Rick was a former commanding officer at the USS Ponce LPD-15. He also served as former commander of the Patrol Coastal Squadron One at the U.S. Navy. After retirement from the Navy, Rick was employed by Pixelle Specialty Solutions as a Reliability Manager. He was a life member of Hanover VFW Post 2506 and enjoyed hiking, traveling and steam locomotives. Rick will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his daughter, Alison Meyer, of Virginia; three siblings, Andrew P. Frey and wife, Sue, of Virginia, Sandra A. Crone and husband, Donald, of Abbottstown, and Deborah L. Baumgardner and husband, Barry, of New Oxford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc, 311 Broadway. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in York Road Cemetery with full military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
