Richard J. “Dick” Farley, 76, loving husband of Judith A. Klinedinst Farley of Hanover, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 5, 2012 following a period of declining health.
Born on September 13, 1935 in Midway, he was a son of the late William Farley, Sr. and M. Roxie Becker Farley. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Horace “Bud” Farley, William Farley, Jr. and Ernest J. Farley; two sisters, Mary Catherine Farley and Leona Holub and a beloved dog, Libby Lou 1.
He had been employed by Malcolm Spinning Mill for 30 years. In 1983, he purchased and operated the Circle Service Station until 2003. He later retired as manager of the Hanover Republican Club.
Dick loved baseball and the New York Yankees. He played fast pitch softball for Hanover A.A., managed the Republican Club softball team and coached Little League Baseball for the Hanover Recreation League. Active within the community, he was a life member of the Hanover Home Association, Eagle Fire Company #1 and the Republican Club, where he served two terms as President. He was also a member of the Hanover Eagles and the Yellow Breeches Anglers & Conservation Assn., Inc. Enjoying the outdoors, he was also an avid golfer, fisherman and hunter.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of nearly 59 years, are five daughters, Carol Louey and her husband, Dennis of Hanover, LuAnn McKim and her husband, James of Thomasville, Pam Farley Sanders of Hanover, Margaret Ecker and her husband, John of Glen Rock and Melissa Zartman and her husband, Rex of Spring Grove; two sons, James Farley and his wife, Susan, and Andrew Farley and his wife, Janice, all of Hanover; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
The Memorial Service will be held at 2 pm Monday, July 9, 2012 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 127 York Street, Hanover with The Rev. Christina Minnich officiating. The family will receive friends in the church parlor one hour prior to the service.
