Richard M. Davis, 89, of Hanover, skied his final run down the mountain on Saturday, December 23, 2017.
Born on June 14, 1928 in South Portland, Maine, he was the son of the late Morris Charles Davis and Mabelle Christine Davis. He is also preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn Lee Davis and a sister, Norma Davis Foss.
Richard received his bachelor’s degree from Boston University and was the proud owner of Davis Material Handling of Baltimore, MD. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps having served for President Harry S. Truman at Camp David. An avid skier, he was a serious cyclist, member of All Saints Episcopal Church, counseled veterans in hospice care and was also active in the Homewood community.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, A. Christine Davis; three children, Keith Linwood Davis of Catonsville, MD, Leslie Davis Swallow and her husband, Jerry, of Tomales, CA, and Cynthia Lynne Gale and her husband, Glenn, of New York, NY; two grandchildren, Isabelle Christine Gale and Ian Davis Gale; and a sister, Corinne Johnson and her husband, Walter, of Little Sebago, Maine.
A memorial service will be held at 10 am Friday, December 29, 2017 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 890 McCosh Street, Hanover with The Rev. Liz Huskey Simmons officiating. The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held from 4 to 6 pm Thursday at the Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover. A reception for family and friends will be held on Friday from 12:00pm to 3:00pm at Homewood at Plum Creek, 425 Westminster Avenue, Hanover in the Omni Room on the 2nd Floor of the Community Center.
