Richard A. Beyer, 62, of Hanover, husband of Stephanie D. Mensch Beyer, lost his courageous battle to cancer on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Hanover Hall while surrounded by his family.
Born on Monday, October 8, 1951 in Norristown, he was a son of the late Robert H. and Virginia Dobbs Beyer. He received his bachelor’s degree in education from the California University of Pennsylvania and later earned his master’s degree from Trenton State University. He taught technology education at Bermudian Springs for 30 years until his retirement in 2007. He also enjoyed working for Ted Bair Kitchens in Littlestown. He was a member of St. Bartholomew’s United Church (ELCA) and the Hanover Elks Lodge #763 B.P.O.E. Skilled with his hands, he enjoyed woodworking and fine carpentry. He loved the outdoors and spent hours fishing and landscaping the yard. He was a patient man who loved being with his family and playing with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 36 years, he is survived by a son, Seth Beyer and his wife, Emily of Hanover; a daughter, Megan Hoffman and her husband, Trevor, of York; two granddaughters, Avery Hoffman and Ella Beyer; a brother, Edward Beyer of Worcester; a sister, Barbara Forrey and her husband, Joe of Lancaster; a sister-in-law, Patricia Magann of Easton; a maternal aunt, Marjorie Saller of MD and two nieces and two nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 pm Monday, April 7, 2014 at St. Bartholomew’s United Church (ELCA) with The Rev. Steven E. Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in St. Bartholomew Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Sunday evening at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover and one hour prior to the service at the church.
