Raymond B. Kuhn, 80, of Hanover, beloved husband of Darla Geiman Kuhn, entered into God’s eternal care on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family following a brief illness.
Born on Tuesday, May 7, 1935 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Alfred B. and Helen Mae Brown Kuhn. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Helena K. Reck and Nancy Kuhn and four brothers, Verley K. Kuhn, James V. “Barney” Kuhn, Michael A. Kuhn, Alfred Paul Kuhn.
Drafted into the U.S. Army, he was medically discharged after contracting rheumatic fever. Gifted with his hands and gasoline engines, he started his career with Bupp’s Dairy and later worked for Sheetz Trucking Center and DK Hershey before retiring from Five Star Trucking, Inc. in 2003. He was a lifelong and devoted member of St. Vincent de Paul Church, where he served as an usher, helped with Bingo and assisted with the school’s basketball team.
Born with green thumbs, he found his solace working in his gardens. He enjoyed being outside tending to the vegetable plants or pruning his roses. He and Darla later canned his tomatoes and made sauerkraut from his cabbages. He was an avid New York Yankees and Notre Dame football fan but his true devotion was to his family which included his very special four granddaughters and his two great-grandsons.
In addition to his wife of nearly 57 years, he is survived by two sons, Christopher Kuhn and his wife, Sherry, and Stephen Kuhn and his wife, Lori, all of Hanover; four granddaughters, Tonia Kuhn, Ashley Smith, Chelsea Lupian and Brianna Kuhn; two great-grandsons, Aaron “Little Jeter” Lupian and Landyn “Little Mickey” Smith; four brothers, Patrick H. Kuhn and his wife, Connie of McSherrystown, Francis D. Kuhn and his wife, Dawn of East Berlin, William C. Kuhn and his wife, Margaret and Daniel E. Kuhn and his wife, Sandy, all of Hanover; nine sisters, Gladys A. Myers, Shirley A. Kuhn, Rosalie M. Santana and her husband, Pedro and Emma J. Kuhn, all of Hanover, Charlotte M. Smith of Gettysburg, Loretta A. Weaver of York Springs, Diane M. Hoffman and her husband, Hugh of McSherrrystown, Sharon M. Kuhn and Carlin Thomas and her husband, Dale, all of Littlestown and an extended family of nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Monday, November 9, 2015 at St. Vincent de Paul Church with The Rev. Ryan M. Fischer serving as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Sunday evening at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with the rosary being recited at 8 pm.
