Philip F. Brenner, 88, of Cross Keys Village, beloved husband of Ruth Hoke Brenner, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at The Brethren Home Community.
Born on Friday, August 9, 1929 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Thomas L. and Annie Poist Brenner. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, William, Richard, and The Rev. Msgr. Thomas Brenner; and his sisters, Mary Ann Staub and Kathleen Brenner.
Philip was a veteran, having served with the US Army, and later retired as the office manager for Schmuck Lumber Company where he had worked for 45 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Hanover Council of the Knights of Columbus #871, VFW Post #2506, AmVets Post #22, Harold H. Bair American Legion Post #14, and the Hanover Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #227. He was also a former Boy Scouts of America leader with Troop #103.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 63 years, is a son, Thomas Brenner and his wife, Mary, of Camp Hill, Patricia Wildasin and her husband, Brent, of Montclair, VA and Susan Swift and her husband, Jack, of Perry Hall, MD; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10 AM Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5055 Grandview Road, Hanover with The Rev. Joseph F. Gotwalt celebrating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
