Pauline “Polly” Margaret Cave, 87, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care and reunited with her husband, Major Robert B. Cave, I, on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Homewood at Plum Creek in Hanover, PA.
Born on Friday, October 9, 1936 in Lonaconing, Maryland, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Henrietta Moffatt Dodds. In addition to her parents and husband of 63 years, who died on April 25, 2024, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Karen M. Cave, and grandson, Alexander Moffatt Cave. Polly enjoyed her career as a school secretary at the Winfield Elementary School in Westminster, MD and later attended the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro, PA. She enjoyed her time scrapbooking, reading, cooking and baking. Her pies and cookies were renowned. Known for her kind and gentle spirit, Polly loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren, and was named “Baltimore’s Best Mom” in a 1982 contest.
Survivors include a son, Robert B. Cave, II and his wife, Kathleen Garner, of Parkton MD; a daughter, Kathleen M. Ridge, and her husband, James, of Hanover; four grandchildren, Tyler J. Ridge, of Hanover, Margaret K. Cave, of Parkton MD, Makenzie R. Ridge, of Hanover, and Hunter M. Ridge of Virginia Beach, VA; three sisters, Helen Nichols and Ruthie Durst of Cumberland, MD and Catherine Holcomb of Bel Air in Cumberland, MD; and seven nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 9, 2024 at Homewood Chapel at Plum Creek, 425 Westminster Ave, Hanover, PA 17331. The family will receive friends and family following the service. Entombment will be on October 11 at 1:00 PM at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery in Flintstone, MD.
