Paul A. Stauffer, Jr., 85, loving husband of Janet B. Stauffer of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Homewood at Plum Creek.
Born on Saturday, March 17, 1928 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Paul A. Stauffer, Sr. and Anna Weiler Stauffer. He was a 1946 graduate of Eichelberger High School and served with the US Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Mr. Stauffer retired in 1983 from the United Telephone Company of Pennsylvania after 35 years of service and later, along with his wife, brother-in-law and his wife, co-owned the P & L Snack Outlet in Hanover. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ where he was a member of the Consistory. He was a past president of the St. Bartholomew United Church of Christ Consistory and the Joint Council Consistory and was a past United Church of Christ Board member. He served on the Conewago Township School Board, was a past president of the Mall Walkers and the Hanover Band Boosters, and was a member of Hanover Elks BPOE #763 and the AARP Chapter #2812.
An accomplished musician, he played the clarinet, and established the Revonah Dutch Band for Hanover’s Dutch Days. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Band, the Moose Band and the Brodbecks Band.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 65 years, are two daughters, Susan S. Mummert and her husband, Ray, of Hanover, and Patricia A. Stauffer of Gettysburg; a brother, Larry G. Stauffer and his wife, Joyce, of Hanover; a sister, Kathryn L. Leppo and her husband, David Leppo, Sr., of Hanover; four grandchildren, Mitchell Mummert of Hanover, Chad Mummert of Erie, Joseph Mummert of Hanover, and Heather Stauffer of Gettysburg; and 2 great-grandsons, Jacob and Zachary Mummert.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Trinity United Church of Christ with The Rev. Peg Grzelkowski officiating. Burial will be held privately in Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover and 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
