Services: A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Monday, June 29, 2009 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 890 McCosh Street, Hanover with The Rev. Douglas Smith officiating. Burial will be private.

Paul E. Briggs, Jr. 73, of Spring Grove, died peacefully with his wife by his side on June 24, 2009 at Golden Living Center in Gettysburg.Born April 23, 1936 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Paul E. Briggs, Sr. and Marion Elizabeth Greenwood Briggs. He served in the United States Army and was a retired employee of Lucent Technologies. A lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, he was also an active member of the Boy Scouts of America for many years, and was a former member of the Masons. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and hiking. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Nancy Anne Dempsey Briggs; two sons, Paul E. Briggs, III of Hanover and Scott H. Briggs and his wife, Adrienne of Jefferson Hills, PA; two daughters, Cherie Gichner and her husband, Danny of Myerstown, PA and Robin Bowman and her husband, David of Spring Grove; seven grandchildren, Alexandria, Paul IV, Nathaniel, Jeremiah, Jared, Adam and Caileigh; and a sister, Marion Sumpter of OH.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Harrisburg Office, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 101, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or to the charity of one’s choice.
