Paul C. Bowen, Sr., 78, of Hanover, husband of Darlene Nearhood Bowen, died Monday, April 29, 2013 at Hanover Hall following a lengthy illness.
Born on April 9, 1935 in Baltimore, he was a son of the late Leslie and Thelma Brown Bowen. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Richard Bowen, Petty Bowen and Bob Bowen.
He had previously been employed by Baltimore Glass for many years before retiring from Port Contractors in Baltimore in 2001. He was a member of the B.P.O Elks #2608 and Raven Roost, both in Arnold, MD and was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens. He enjoyed the outdoors and hunting as well as the water, where he spent time fishing and crabbing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Paul Bowen, Jr. and his wife, Eva, Paula Johnson, and Vicki Bowen, all of Wyoming, Steve Pless, Edwina Miller and her husband Randy, Mildred Shock all of Hanover, PA, Sharon Nail and her husband Mike, Annie Gillespie all of Shiremanstown, PA, and Thomas Pless of Baltimore, MD; 2 grandsons, Mike Bowen and Nick Shock, who he raised as his own, 14 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Donkerly; and a brother Leslie Bowen.
A Gathering of Friends will be from 6-8pm on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc, 311 Broadway, Hanover, PA.
