Oscar R. Leister

Oscar R. Leister, Jr., 83, of Hanover, loving husband of Pearl M. Angell Leister, died peacefully Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Hanover Hospital following a period of declining health.



Born July 11, 1927 in Union Mills, MD, he was the son of the late Esta A. Koontz Leister and O. Raymond Leister, Sr. He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Emma J. Brothers, Marian V. Study and Margaret N. Smith.



He served with the United States Army, earning a T5 rank during World War II and later assisted the government in various aspects of security. He was employed as a mechanical draftsman with Elsner Engineering Works, Inc. for over 32 years prior to his retirement in 1992. He enjoyed his membership with the local York County Rock and Mineral Club, the Stamp Club and the American Legion Post 0945. An artist with wood, he spent hours building and refinishing antiques for Study’s Antiques in Silver Run, MD.



In addition to his wife of 50 years, he is survived by two daughters, Brenda Leister and Mary K. Leister Sutherland and her husband, Henry, all of Hanover; four grandchildren, James E. Kimmey, Jr., Michael A. Kimmey, Theresa L. Kline and Karl D. Kimmey; three great-granddaughters, Lindsae, Alyssa and Autum; two great-great-grandchildren and two nieces.



The funeral will be held 11 AM Friday, September 10, 2010 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hanover Ward, 1170 Kohler Mill Road, New Oxford, PA 17350 with Bishop Gregory Alan Baughman officiating. Burial will follow in Marburg Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites being conducted by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the viewing from 9:45-10:45 am prior to the service at the church.
