Norman L. White, 65, of Hanover, husband of Marlene Crowe White, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, December 26, 2010 following a brief illness.
Born Norman Leslie DeGroot on November 15, 1945 in Staten Island, NY to the late Mildred A. DeGroot White, he was later welcomed into the family of Mary Clark Wierman of Hanover and the late Charles R. Clark.
A 1964 graduate of Delone Catholic High School, he later earned an Associate Degree from Montgomery College. Serving in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, he was stationed aboard the USS Renshaw. He spent his career in telecommunications, having been employed by North Carroll Communications and later retiring from Tessco Technology of Hunt Valley, MD in 2008.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where he served as an Extraordinary Minister of Communion. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was especially fond of his nieces and nephews who thought he was the “cool uncle.”
In addition to his wife, he is survived by her children, who he thought of as his own, Sarah Kuhn and her husband, Derrick of Dillsburg and John Doerfler, III and his wife, Jamie of Milford, DE; four brothers, James P. Clark and his wife, Catherine, Wayne Tim Clark and his wife, Molly, and Charles Joe Clark and his wife, Josephine, all of Hanover and Woodrow White and his companion, Linda Herr of Lancaster; three sisters, Sandra Marie Clark of Hanover and Marjorie "Margie" Wissler and her husband Ronald and Violet White and her companion Robert Kellenberger, both of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harry White and an infant sister, Caroline White.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Friday, December 31, 2010 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with The Rev. John A. Szada, Jr. and his nephew The Rev. Paul Michael Clark serving as celebrants. Burial will follow in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery with military graveside rites being conducted by Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at a viewing from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover with a prayer service being held at 8 pm. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
