Norman J. Hertz

Norman John Hertz, 85, of Hanover, loving husband of Mildred Becker Hertz, entered into God’s eternal care on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at Penn State-Milton S. Hershey Medical Center following complications from a fall.

Born on February 7, 1926 in New Oxford, he was a son of the late Ralph G. and Anna Hemler Hertz. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Ann Hertz; three brothers, George, Francis and Leon Hertz and three sisters, Catherine Chronister, Lillian Murren and Anna Keeney.

In his younger years, he drove for Flickinger’s Taxi Service before spending his career of more than 30 years with Jiffy Manufacturing which is now Sealed Air. Following his retirement, he worked part-time for Weis Markets.

A member of the Republican Club and the Hanover Eagles, Mr. Hertz enjoyed racing trotting ponies, raising chickens and rabbits and going coon hunting.

In addition to his wife of 63 years, he is survived by a son, Patrick A. Hertz and his wife, Cathy of Gettysburg; a daughter, Susan C. Sneeringer of Hanover; two granddaughters, Lauren A. Davis and her husband, James, and Jenna E. Sneeringer; two great-grandchildren, Cierra and Clayton Davis, all of Hanover; a sister, Dorothy Spangler of Hanover; two brothers, Ralph G. Hertz of Hanover and Charles Hertz of New Oxford and many nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5125 Grandview Road, Hanover with The Rev. James E. Leese serving as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a viewing one hour prior to the service at the church.
