Nikki L. Clark Barnhart

Dr. Nikki Lynne Clark Barnhart, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community.



Born Thursday, March 14, 1940 in Terre Haute, IN, she was a daughter of the late Wilbur and Margaret Cork Clark. Nikki’s family moved to Sea Isle City, NJ and later to Ocean City, NJ. In 1955, they moved to Hanover where Nikki attended Eichelberger Senior High School and graduated with the class of 1958. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Jim.



In 1958, Nikki enrolled in the present Shippensburg University where she received her Bachelor of Science and Master’s degrees in Education. Further completing her higher education, she earned her Doctorate in Education from the University of Maryland. Nikki was a teacher in the Hanover Public School District for 39 years where she worked with gifted and academically challenged students in the area of language arts with an emphasis on reading. In addition, she served on the Hanover Borough Council for 12 years.



To say that she was Irish showed in her love of Irish music, Irish food and her six trips to the Emerald Isle. Irish tenors, Celtic women, Celtic thunder, and the Clancy Brothers rounded out many of her favorites.



Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Jim; four lovely daughters, Tracey McNally and her husband, Steve, of Hershey, Kelly Fry and her husband, Rich, of Newville, Darby Buckley and her husband Dr. Brenden Buckley, of Hanover; and Holly Smith and her husband, Kris, of McSherrystown; a sister, Peggy Clark of Columbia, SC; and nine beautiful and handsome grandchildren.



The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday, January, 28, 2015 at Panebaker Funeral Home, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
