Nelson H. Smith

Nelson H. Smith, 88, of Hanover, beloved husband of Rosalind J. Nunemaker Smith, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 28, 2022 at UPMC Hanover Hospital.

Born on May 24, 1934 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Paul H. and Genevieve M Laurence Smith. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey L. Sullivan; and a sister, Rita M. Senft. Nelson was a veteran of the United States Army and was a 1952 graduate of Delone Catholic High School. He retired as a machinist from BAE Systems in 1996.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 53 years are two children, Deborah Walker and her husband, Robert, and David Smith and his wife, Kristen; a daughter in law, Christine Sullivan; seven grandchildren, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Joshua, Deborah, Sarah, Matthew, and Jonathan; and 11 great grandchildren, Angelina, Felicia, Samuel, Alena, Luke, Matthew, Joshua, Alexis, Jamie Lynn, Isabella, and Dorain; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A service will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 11 am at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc 311 Broadway with Pastor Terry Lamer officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
