Nancy Baldwin Murphy Ashmore, 91, entered into God’s eternal care Sunday, July 22, 2012 at Cross Keys Village—The Brethren Home Community.

Born September 12, 1920 in Kingston, PA, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Agnes Taylor Baldwin, and was the wife of the late Capt. Thomas B. Murphy, who died in 1966, Paul F. Worcester, who died in 1999, and Walter D. “Bud” Ashmore, who died in 2006. She was a 1942 graduate of Arcadia (Beaver) College in Glenside, PA and was a member of Faith Community Church of the Brethren Home Community. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Hanover, where she sang in the choir.

Nancy moved to Hanover in 1947 and taught first grade at the former Penn Street School for 19 years. She served on the Boards of Directors of VNA of Hanover & Spring Grove for 12 years, the Hanover YWCA, and the Community Advisory Board for the Brethren Home. She was a Gray Lady with the Hanover Chapter of the American Red Cross and did volunteer work for Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Miller and Karen Kalina, both of Hanover; one son, L. Denton “Denny” Murphy of St. Regis Falls, NY; one sister, Margaret Thamm of Wilmington, DE; three step-children, Dr. Robert Ashmore, Connie Warthen, and Valerie Sylvester; five grandchildren, Lisa Albrecht, Thomas Miller, Monica Orr, Thomas B. Murphy and Cheryl Sweet; and six great-grandchildren, Maddie, Jenna, Caroline, Katie, Fahren and Preston.

As per her wishes, no service is planned.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice of Hanover & Spring Grove, 440 N. Madison Street, Hanover, PA 17331 or to the Good Samaritan Fund, Cross Keys Village-The Brethren Home Community, PO Box 128, New Oxford, PA 17350.
